AC Repair
Our air conditioning repair technicians are experienced in providing AC repair to all makes and models of central air conditioning units, including Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Bryant, York, Rheem, etc. We’ve been providing air conditioning repair services to the Mobile and Gulf Shores area since 1986. In that time, we’ve come across just about every possible situation.
Our technicians are trained and certified and arrive at your home in a truck or van that is fully equipped to handle your AC repair quickly and affordably. After diagnosing the issue, we’ll let you know what the final cost for parts and labor will be before performing any repairs.
If you’ve had repeated repairs to your central AC unit and it is more than 15 years old, we may recommend replacing your unit.
AC Installation
We offer central air conditioning installation to homeowners who are replacing an old and failing unit, who want to upgrade to a more efficient unit, as well as homeowners who are remodeling. We can install a second air conditioner for a zoned system, a mini split system where there is no ductwork, and more.
As an authorized Carrier dealer for the Mobile and Gulf Shores AL area, we sell and install Carrier air conditioners. Carrier is one of the top names in the industry. In fact, company founder Willis Carrier is the man who invented air conditioning! And here in Alabama, we thank him just about every day of the year.
With a typical split system, you will likely need to replace your AC unit and furnace at the same time. This is so the new, more energy efficient heating and cooling units can work together to provide you with peak efficiency and energy savings.
We offer special financing to help spread the cost of a new HVAC system out over a period of time. We understand that Carrier systems are not the cheapest, but they are well worth the investment in your home and your family’s comfort, and will provide you with savings on your utility bills.
Call Climatemp at 251-968-6006 in Gulf Shores for AC repair and AC installation. Signs You May Need Air Conditioner Repair
- Your air conditioning is not working at all. Before calling for HVAC services, check to make sure the thermostat is set to “cool” and the cooling temperature is lower than the current indoor temperature. Also make sure your air conditioning system has not tripped a breaker. If these things check out and you still are not getting cool air, call Climatemp.
- You can hear the unit running, but there is little to no cool air coming out of your vents. Something’s not right. Check the filter and if it looks OK, call for service.
- Your air conditioner is making strange noises. You know what your air conditioner normally sounds like. Is it louder? Screeching?
- Your air conditioner smells bad. Unusual odors when the air conditioning is running could mean the system is circulating dirt or mold into the air. Call us ASAP for air conditioning repair.
- Your air conditioner is short cycling. It’s normal for your air conditioning system to run and then turn off, and turn on again a short while later. But if it is constantly turning off, then on, then off again, your system needs to be checked out.
- A large amount of water is pooling by your AC unit. A small amount of condensation is normal, but a lot of water indicates a problem. If you notice a lot of water in your system, call Climatemp today for air conditioning repair.
- Your air conditioning unit is icy or frosty. This is not normal. Call for air conditioning repair.
Call for air conditioning repair as soon as you notice a problem. If caught early, repairs can be relatively minor. If your system is working too hard, it may eventually burn out altogether, leading to a full replacement.

Local HVAC Services
We offer local HVAC services that are fast and affordable. We are licensed and all of our technicians are trained and factory certified. We realize you have a number of HVAC companies to choose from, and we welcome the opportunity to prove to you that we are the best company to work with.
When we come to your home to give you an estimate for your new air conditioning installation, we’ll look at your old unit, the space you have available, ask you some questions about your comfort level, and calculate the size of air conditioning unit you need based on recognized methods from the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) manual. Then we will make written recommendations for replacing your air conditioning unit.
If you don’t currently have central air conditioning, or don’t have the ductwork available for central air conditioning, we have solutions for you, including installing ductwork or mini split ductless heat pumps.
We will include pricing for installation of several levels of equipment, what Carrier calls good, better and best. Each level has pros and cons, and increasing energy efficiency with each level. We may recommend upgrading your whole HVAC system at the same time for maximum efficiency. In a split system, the indoor evaporator coil and the outdoor condenser unit must be a matched set from the same brand in order for the performance, efficiency and capacity to meet your expectations.

Ductless Air Conditioning
If you haven’t heard of ductless air conditioning, you’re not alone. Ductless air conditioning is less common than central air conditioning. Arguably, central air conditioning is a better solution for cooling than a window unit.
Like a central air conditioning system, a ductless heating and cooling system, also known as a mini-split system, has two main components – an outdoor compressor / condenser unit, and an indoor air handling unit.
The big difference is the mini-split system operates without duct work – hence the name, ductless air conditioning. This makes mini splits ideal for older homes, room additions, garages, attics, or other areas that you want to cool, but there is no existing ductwork. Ductless air conditioning systems are quieter than window units, and more energy efficient, as well.
Ductless systems, since they operate without ducts, avoid the energy loss associated with traditional central forced air systems. Air loss in a duct system can for more than 30% of energy consumption.
The ductless cooling and heating system offers flexibility. Indoor air handlers can be suspended from a ceiling, mounted flush into a drop ceiling, or hung on a wall. Most indoor units have a sleek, high-tech look, and come with a remote control to make it easier to govern the system. Ductless air conditioning systems can also help to keep your home safer, because there is only a small hole in the wall. Through-the-wall and window mounted room air-conditioners can provide an easy entrance for intruders.
Is a Ductless Air Conditioner Right for You?
If you think a ductless air conditioner may be just the thing for your situation, call Climatemp today at 251-968-6006 to schedule a free estimate on a ductless mini-split system. We serve homeowners in Mobile, Gulf Shores and Baldwin County.
Who Invented Air Conditioning
Willis Havil and Carrier invented air conditioning. He was an American engineer who figured out that to properly cool the air, you needed a process to remove the humidity. Learn more about Willis Carrier.
When Was Air Conditioning Invented?
Mr. Carrier invented air conditioning in 1902, when he designed a system for a printing company that was being plagued with the effects of humidity on their paper stock. Learn more about the process here.
What is a SEER Rating?
SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and is a measurement of how much cooling an air conditioning system puts out for each unit of energy it uses. Generally speaking, the higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the air conditioning system is.
A SEER rating is the maximum rating, meaning the unit may perform at a lower SEER during peak usage.
Why Isn’t My Air Conditioning Cooling?
There may be several reasons. First, check that the thermostat is set to Cool and the fan is set to Auto. Make sure the cooling temperature is set lower than the existing room temperature. Next, check the filter and change it if necessary. A dirty filter restricts air flow.
Go outside and make sure the outdoor unit has plenty of room to breathe – to pull in fresh air. Cut away bushes, flowers, etc. so give at least 24 inches of clearance all the way around the unit.
If you still don’t have cool air blowing, call Climatemp for air conditioning repair. We can come out the same day and check the condenser unit, coils, refrigerant, compressor, etc. and fix the problem.
How Often Should I Change the Filter?
If you use the thin, 1” filters, you will need to replace the filter monthly, perhaps more often if the AC is running non-stop and you have pets in the home. When using the thicker pleated filters (with a frame attached to the air handler) you will need to change the filter less often, but likely every 2-3 months.
If you have allergies, you may notice you’re waking up with post nasal drip if the filter is getting dirty. You may want to check the filter, and keep track of the days that you change it. You may also want to consider installing a whole house air purifier.
When you replace the filter, be sure that the arrow is pointing toward the furnace and away from the air duct that is pulling in the air that needs heating or cooling.
What is a MERV Rating?
MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. This is the rating you will see on the various HVAC air filters you can buy. MERV ratings range from 1 to 16. The higher the MERV rating, the more efficient the filter will be in trapping airborne particles such as pollen, pet dander and dust.
Anything below a MERV 6 is not recommended, as they will not filter much out. Anything higher than a MERV 13 will reduce the airflow too much in a typical residential setting.
What Does it Mean if My Air Conditioner Freezes Up?
If your air conditioner is frozen, it can mean that the airflow is insufficient, and it allowed the condenser coils to drop below freezing. When this happens, the humidity in the air collects on the coils, creating a buildup of ice on your air conditioning unit. A dirty filter could be your problem.
It could also be due to:
- Refrigerant leak
- Air filter that is too restrictive (see MERV rating above)
- Not enough return ducts open
- Dirty evaporator coils
Do You Do Emergency Air Conditioning Repair?
Yes, we do. You can call Climatemp 24/7 for emergency AC repair at no extra cost to you. So if you need to get the AC back in a hurry, call us now at 251-968-6006.
How Do I Know if I Need a New Air Conditioner?
If you’ve been making repairs year after year, or your central air conditioning unit is more than 10 years old, you might want to think about replacing it before it fails altogether. A new central air conditioner will save you in repair costs as well as save money on your utility bills.
Can I Replace the Outdoor Unit Without Replacing the Indoor Unit?
Generally, it is not recommended unless the indoor unit is relatively new, and is the same brand, and compatible with the air conditioning unit. This is because different brands, makes and models are designed to be compatible with a corresponding unit. Having one part of your split system be old, and another part new, can lead to problems with the system operating efficiently.
If you need air conditioning repair, or you’re looking to install a replacement air conditioning unit, call Climatemp today at 251-968-6006 or use our contact form, and someone will get back with you shortly.

Our Customer Stories
I have been a satisfied customer for several years. Climatemp told me about the “Reme-Halo” system that people have been installing in their systems. This eliminates the “sick building” syndrome in the home. After checking it out and reading nothing but positive reviews, we decided to purchase one. Climatemp had the tech come out in 2 days and he installed it in less then 30 minutes.
The technicians at Climatemp did an outstanding job of replacing my entire HVAC system. This was necessary after our system went completely down after we had been in this house only three months. The techs got to my house at 3:30 pm and did not leave until 10:00 pm that same night. But they completed the job, in spite of the fact that probably worked 14 hours that day!
Everyone was very helpful and friendly. This includes the ladies that I spoke to on the phone, Bryant, and the gentlemen that installed our new unit. Bryant was a real sweetheart and even called to make sure the new unit was being installed today. The guys that installed the new unit were very courteous and fast with the installation. I would definitely recommend Climatemps.
